ABOUT THE CANDIDATES
What qualifications do Pink Nanny candidates typically possess?
Pink Nanny candidates have so much to offer, including at least three years of professional, paid childcare/education-related experience, impeccable and recent childcare references, and CPR/First Aid certification. They are all also at least 21 years old, able to pass a criminal background check (upon extension of a job offer), and have a clean driving record. We also require that candidates be non-smokers.
In addition to the above requirements, many of the candidates also possess advanced degrees in fields including Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Psychology, and we represent candidates who have experience working with children with a variety of learning styles and abilities. Some are bilingual and many have received specialized training in fields including Montessori, RIE, Waldorf, and Pikler. Prefer a nanny with certifications as Newborn Care Specialists, Sleep Consultants, and/or Lactation Consultants? Pink Nannies has you covered!
How do you go about finding potential candidates for families?
The majority of prospective candidates are referred to us by other nannies and families. We have an extensive nanny network through the International Nanny Association, universities, the Pink Nannies website, and both traditional and non-traditional recruiting and networking circles.
We receive thousands of applications every year, but only best are accepted after our rigorous screening and vetting process. To find the best fit for your family, we conduct a family consultation, and identify the specifics of your household, childcare philosophies, personalities of members of your family, and what qualities you are looking for in your ideal nanny. We then create a customized job description to attract the most qualified candidates to fit your family’s needs.
What can I ask a nanny to do for our family?
First and foremost, a nanny is hired to care for your children and ensure they are safe and engaged throughout the day, as well as staying on track with developmental milestones or other goals your family has set.
Additionally, nannies can be responsible for all child-related tasks, including but not limited to: cooking for the children, shopping for the children, washing bottles and breast pumps, restocking diapers/diaper bags, tidying up kids’ toys/play areas, doing children’s laundry, cleaning up dishes that the child and nanny used that day, making a child’s meal plan, taking your child to the doctor, scheduling playdates, planning daily outings, planning age-appropriate activities, texting photos throughout the day, and taking care of your child when they are sick.
Can I request that a nanny handle tasks unrelated to the children?
Absolutely! This would fall under the added job title of “Family Assistant/Household Manager.” A family assistant or household manager is responsible for managing everyday household operations and attending to the requirements of the family.
Responsibilities may include scheduling appointments for home repairs, supervising household staff, keeping inventory of the house and restocking items, ensuring the house remains clean and organized, managing bills, running errands, grocery shopping, providing house sitting, pet sitting, preparing meals for the family, doing the family laundry, and other tasks as assigned.
REGARDING THE SEARCH
How much time will it take?
We typically find that it takes around six weeks to secure the ideal nanny. However, it may take more time if, for example, you have very specific or uncommon requirements. We recommend that you begin your job search no later than six weeks in advance of your targeted start date, preferably eight to ten weeks in advance.
How have applicants been evaluated?
Each candidate we present has undergone a rigorous screening process by our team. This involves a formal application, phone screening, and video interview. We place a high priority on candidates that exhibit character traits including punctuality, dependability, and industry knowledge. We bolster the initial application and interviews with a social media screening, reference analysis, and a full internal assessment of personality, professionalism, and household match.
After an offer of employment has been extended, we run a full background and motor vehicle check on the candidate, including the following:
- Security background investigation
- Criminal history search (including all locations lived in the past 7 years)
- Auxiliary national criminal search (including records for the past 7 years)
- Global terrorist search
- Driving record check
Can anything be done to expedite the procedure?
The speed at which the procedure occurs is a highly collaborative effort by Pink Nannies and your family. Families that effectively communicate and respond promptly, as well as offer a competitive compensation package, aid in accelerating the recruitment process. The Pink Nannies placement team values timely feedback from you after initial presentation and subsequent interview(s) of a candidate. This not only allows us to tailor our search to your needs but also increases your chance of hiring your optimal nanny.

NANNY EMPLOYMENT
Can I evaluate the nanny prior to making an offer?
We arrange compensated one- to three-day trial periods for any candidate who accepts a job offer.
What are my options if things do not work out with the nanny I hired?
We understand that, while highly unusual, some relationships are simply not destined to last. For full-time, long-term searches, we do offer a one-time search credit for any search that lasts for less than a year. For more information, please refer to the agreement signed at the beginning of your search.
Can Pink Nannies provide a contract for our use?
We provide a general employment contract template as well as a non-disclosure agreement. Your family is welcome to use our templates or create your own, provided the agreement still abides by local, state, and federal laws.
AGENCY FEES & COMPENSATION
What are your agency's costs?
To initiate your search, we require a $500 launch fee, and our long-term placement fees range from 20 to 25 percent of the nanny’s annual gross compensation package, depending on the nature of your search. Temporary searches range from 25 to 30 percent of the candidates’ gross compensation package.
What is the average hourly rate of a Pink Nanny?
It depends on a number of different things. Depending on the nature of the work, duties, schedule, and location, rates range from $25 to $40+ per hour. Live-in professional nannies receive the same hourly compensation as they would if they were a live-out nanny, as these living arrangements are often created to benefit you as the employer and provide additional flexibility or on-site help after hours.
What typical benefits do nannies receive?
These benefits will differ based on the nanny’s expertise, the family’s specific requirements, and their location.
The most common benefits our full-time candidates are expecting to see are:
- Paid vacation time
- Paid sick time
- Paid major holidays (any additional holidays are appreciated)
- Monthly healthcare stipend of at least $200/month or health insurance
- Mileage reimbursement at the IRS rate for on-the-job travel (or use of a family car)
- Guaranteed hours
- Relocation assistance
Other appreciated benefits include:
- Signing bonus, a performance-based bonus, or a retention bonus
- Car insurance premium contributions
- 401(k) matching contributions
- Family vehicle use outside of work
- Work cell phone
- Use of a family vacation home
Do we pay the nanny, or does the agency?
You will be the sole employer of the nanny and will pay them directly through a professional household payroll service using direct deposit. We have partnered with Homework Solutions, our preferred tax and payroll partner, for many years. They are a phenomenal domestic household payroll company that can assist you through the process.
Is it possible to pay my nanny in cash?
We require that our families pay their nannies legally, using a W2 and withholding taxes. According to the Fair Labor Standards Act, nannies are classified as domestic employees and are not eligible to be paid by 1099. We will connect you with Homework Solutions, our preferred tax and payroll partner for many years.
Candidate FAQs
Commonly Asked Questions
Where do I start?
The best place to start is our Job Board! There, you can view open positions and start the application process here. We will review your application and get in touch with you if you are a good fit for the positions you have applied for. If we are unable to move forward with your application, you’ll hear from us too. So don’t worry, one way or another we will be in touch, and you do not have to contact us!
*Please note that due to the large number of applicants, we do not respond to direct calls or emails inquiring about the status of an application.
What happens now that I've had an interview with the Pink Nannies placement team?
First, thank you for taking the time to allow us to get to know you better! After your interview, you will receive an email outlining the next steps (check your spam folder if you have not). In order to formally apply for a specific position, you will create a Pink Nannies candidate profile*. This is where you will upload your resume and other requested documents and information. Once you’ve uploaded everything, we will review it and get back to you if we have any questions.
*We are able to move forward with candidates once they have successfully completed their profile in its entirety, including requested uploaded documents like a drivers license, U.S. passport or E-verify form, CPR/First Aid certification, and a reference resource form. The faster this is completed, the faster we can start sharing how awesome you are with families!
When do I start meeting directly with families?
Once your vetting process has been completed by members of our team, we’ll look at your profile and send your profile to families whose positions you have expressed interest in. When families are excited to meet you and learn more, a member of the Pink Nannies team will connect you with the family via email. If you do not hear from us, you were not selected for that position. Don’t get discouraged, though! We update our job board (link) with new opportunities regularly, and you can reapply for other positions.
How do I submit my application for a specific job?
Visit our open jobs on the Pink Nannies Job Board. When deciding whether to apply, be sure to review the location, commute, ages of children, family dynamics, job expectations, duties, schedule, hourly rate range, benefits package, and start date by reading the description thoroughly. If you agree to all of the specifics and are interested in applying, you can do so by clicking the “I’m Interested” button at the bottom of the job description*. We will review your application and a member of our team will call you to go over more specific information. Then we may then submit your profile to the family. If you do not hear from us, you were unfortunately not selected to move forward in the hiring process.
*Pink Nannies automatically receives notifications if a candidate applies to a specific job. Please do not call or email letting us know that you are interested.
Can you hold off on calling my references until after I have accepted the job offer?
We are unable to hold off on contacting references until after a job offer has been accepted. Part of our screening and vetting process is ensuring that Pink Nannies is approving professional, experienced, and reliable applicants to submit to families. One way we do this is by contacting your most recent references to verify your employment history. You will be asked
The experience of having my own children counts as professional childcare experience, right?
Pink Nannies respects and admires parents and recognizes that raising one’s own children can teach you a lot. However, this is broadly not considered in the nannying industry as professional experience because nannying requires a different and unique set of skills, including but not limited to the ability to work in a private home, raise children according to the norms and philosophy of the family employing you, and so on.
Therefore, Pink Nannies requires applicants to have 3+ years of professional, paid experience.
I'd like to bring my child with me to work; is that okay?
Similarly to most other professional environments (including those that the parents who work with Pink Nannies work in), none of our positions offer bringing your “tag-alongs” with you to work.
Why don't babysitting gigs, temp jobs, or jobs I had before I turned 18 factors into the calculation of my childcare experience?
Though any work experience is valuable, we’re especially interested in any you’ve had in the professional realm since turning 18. Long-term employment (a minimum of six months) with a family, school, daycare, childcare center, or camp, whether full- or part-time, qualifies as professional experience. Part-time is defined as a minimum of 25 hours per week and full-time is defined as a minimum of 40 hours per week.
The family requires the COVID-19 vaccine, and I do not have it. Can I apply and still be considered?
At this time, we ask that you only submit your interest for jobs that do not require vaccination. We will update these requirements according to the government-recommended guidelines around COVID-19 protocols.
When can I expect to hear back after I interview with a family?
After an interview with a family, we ask that both you and the family provide feedback in a timely manner. That being said, many families are juggling a lot (they don’t have a nanny, after all!), and they have to make difficult decisions. We appreciate your patience and assure you that a member of our team will let you know how the family would like to proceed, including scheduling a second-round interview, extending a job offer, or choosing to go in a different direction.
Why wasn't I chosen for any of the jobs I applied for?
There is a high volume of applicants for our open positions, and only about 10% of applicants are considered. If you are not selected for a job, please don’t be discouraged! We regularly update available opportunities on our Job Board and you can re-apply to other positions you are interested in.
Why do I have to interview again if I've previously talked to Pink Nannies?
We like to ensure all of our applicants’ information is up-to-date and relevant. If it has been a few months since your last interview, we will send you a link to schedule another brief video chat with a Pink Nannies placement team member. This is a great way to share what you have been up to, why you are seeking a new opportunity, and what new experiences you have had that can bolster your profile and increase your chances of being selected by a family!
How quickly will I land a job?
The answer to this varies. Factors such as the state of the employment market, the time of year, your geographic area, your level of experience, your educational and professional credentials, and professionalism, among others, impact the speed at which a candidate is hired. Although we cannot guarantee that you will land your ideal job, we are rooting for you and will give you tips and guidance along the way! In general, you can increase your chances of landing that dream job by being professional, prompt, pleasant, and following Pink Nannies’ recommendations. Good luck!
